Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails team up against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with new powers. With their abilities outmatched, Team Sonic must forge an unlikely alliance. The directors of the previous films have mentioned playing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2001) and the single-player game Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) for inspiration.
